I'm excited about our 2012 calendar ... the above is a little peak.  They'll be available for sale in mid-September! 

NEWS! Fifteen Eleven - A Paper Shop

I've been working on something that I'm so thrilled to finally share.  I'm expanding SIMPLESONG Design and opening a brick and mortar shop later this year!  The shop will be called Fifteen Eleven (a nod to our current studio space) and we'll be carrying a curated collection of paper goods from my favorite designers ...

To say the least, I am super excited.  We have the opportunity to expand our current space, The Hive at 1511, and will be moving things around (Ritzy Bee and Kate Headley Photography will be moving upstairs!) to accomodate the shop.  I am beyond appreciative to my dear friends, supporters and collaboraoters, Maria and Kelly of Ritzy Bee and Kate Headley.  They are the best friends a girl could have. 

A few other things to share:

• We're hiring!  I'm looking for someone to help open, maintain and grow the shop.  More info about the job here. 
• I'm very excited about the branding + have lots of goodies up my sleeve : ).  The shop will be branded separately from SIMPLESONG (which will remain the custom/letterpress portion of my business).  For now, we just have a temporary site for the shop up here.
• Follow the progress of the shop build-out, opening and other tidbits on Twitter.

I've been dying to share some news ... SIMPLESONG is moving into a studio space!  Along with Kate Headley Photography and the Ritzy Bee Events team, we just signed a lease for a lovely space in a 100 year old rowhouse located in Old Town Alexandria.  We are calling it The Hive at 1511 ...

 
In addition to being our individual offices, we'll be offering creative workshops on letterpress, photography, weddings and more starting in May.  We're all very excited!  If you're interested, you can follow our progress on our new blog here and twitter here.

inspiring prints

I've been trying to clean up my studio + printing area these last few weeks.  I also want to hang a few pieces + I think I'll order one of these ...

I have the Keep Calm print above one of my presses + it works quite well in those moments of frustration.  And right now I'm especially liking the last one.  Simple + inspiring.

favorite things

I needed a little break from work + decided to take photos of a few new favorite things lying around my studio ...

An entire set of wood type I recently got from Ebay ... I've been on the lookout forever for just the right set [more on this later] ... my new little succulent plant [I'm officially a convert] ... cute Martha Stewart labels from Michael's [all her stuff is on sale there:] ... lovely letterpress printed cards picked up at NSS.

organizing

I love this time of year.  Its a great time to catch-up, clean, organize + get ready for the new year.  I've already gotten a good start ...

I got some new stuff for my little studio -- a vintage crate from my local antique store + a shelf from my local hardware store.  Love them both.  Still lots more to do ... but it feels good already.

In just the last week I've seen two really simple but charming uses for otherwise boring wire hangers ...

 
Who knew a wire hanger could be so lovely?  The next time I have a wire hanger [we always give ours back to our cleaners] I'm so putting it to use.

a red table + a wire basket

I quickly ran out today + picked up the red table I mentioned the other day ...
Its red, metal + was used in an old schoolhouse - a totally perfect pop of color in my otherwise white work space.  And I also spotted a metal wire locker basket!  Exactly like lovely Mary's + just what I wanted!  Its perfect for some of my ribbon + fabric.

[And on another note, husb is feeling better..thanks for your warm wishes.  In the 8 years we've been married I have never seen him this sick.  It was quite sad.  Off to tend to him + our little one!]

Some wallpaper I've been admiring ...

I've restarted my search for the perfect wallpaper.  Especially after this weekend where I've decided I need to take some time to work on the house.  I've been so busy that I've put it on the back burner.  I've also started a new rule for myself:  no computer for one-day-a-week.  Hopefully I can follow my little rule as it really does help to get a mental break + you get a lot of stuff done around the house!
