Hello! I'm Amanda Jane Jones, SIMPLESONG's intern for the summer. You'll learn from my blog that my husband and I have spent our summer here in DC exploring to our heart's content. We love to eat out, take evening strolls around the capital and ride our vintage Schwinn's all over town. I've complied some of our style favorites from the summer, which are perfect for exploring wherever you may be.

perfect summer outfit :: kristina / lovely morning

Hi there! I'm Kristina and I'm so srsly envious of Suann and her fancy trip to the islands for her sister's wedding. Aren't you? But second best I suppose is posting while she is away. Here's my favorite summer outfit of the moment, not all of which I actually own. You know how that goes.

1. white tee - I'm re-loving these right now. So simple and perfect and if there's a faded graphic (like this one from Madewell), all the better. 2. a hat - fair skin = hat all of the time during the summer. This crushable fedora from Catbird (via ESB) looks excellent. Mine is similar but I could still use a second. 3. the maxi skirt - I'm totally into them. I've even resurrected a few indian cotton numbers I thought I'd given away ages ago. This beauty would really spice up my early-evening-dinner-with-the-family-at-Gjelinaemsemble. 4. a simple gold band - I've posted about this exact band before but hey, might as well keep putting it out there! Especially during summer when I'm in and out of the garden and the pool and the ocean and the playground, I'd love something other than my engagement ring/wedding band to wear around. They are delicate and I'm scared I'm going to bend them. Again. 5. my Misa Jewelry necklace - been wearing it for years. Still love it as a staple accessory. 6. One Love Organics multi-balm - It's not exactly clothes or accessories, but I wear it every day so I think it counts. It's especially amazing under a tinted mousterizer or mineral makeup for a smooth, dewy, not made up look. Also good for make-up remover, lip balm, and diaper rash. Really. 7. and my faithful Cynthia Vincent gladiators - second pair actually. And I'm scared that I might need a third soon. I feel as though I should update my look, but really? Why fix what seems to be working fine.

vacation + announcing ...

We're heading out for my sister's wedding (hooray!) and a much needed vacation.  While I'm away, I've asked some favorite bloggers/people to share their "perfect summer outfit".  

First up is Christine of here and here and now of Fifteen Eleven!  Christine will be joining me full-time to help open and run Fifteen Eleven.  I can not express how excited I am to have her on board.  She just moved to DC (perfect timing) and I knew when I saw her profile on Twitter - "simple is always better" that we'd likely be a great fit.  I'm sure you'll be hearing lots about Christine, but for now here are her summer essentials ...

 

My husband and I just moved to DC (last week!) and I've learned a bit about summer dressing.  You see, it's hot here, REALLY REALLY HOT, and unlike our last city, I find myself spending the majority of my day outside.  I've been out of a walkable city for four years now and I've missed it so.  The above are my essentials, my favorites, my never-ever get tired. 

Keeping it light is key or else I'll sweat myself out of my clothes.  This crushable straw hat from Catbird keeps the sun off my face and the white dress from steven alan is light and flowy allowing me to stay as cool as possible.  My main life accessory these days is nail polish and I've been on a mad hunt for the perfect navy, needless to say RGB x Need Supply Co. hit it big with 1996.  You can never go wrong with a giant ring, and this one from Catalina Brenes reminds me of an oyster, which seems demographically appropriate.  I scored my Sweedish Hasbeens a couple of months ago, and while they don't look like they would be the best walking shoes, they are.  Just the right amount of sass, and the wooden soles are amazingly forgiving on the concrete.  FINALLY, sunscreen.  I'm a nut about it, and this Neutrogena cooling spray is my favorite.

can't do it all

Things have been over-the-top busy lately, especially with the opening of Fifteen Eleven, that I've decided to scale back on several things -- one of them being Hip Hip Hooray.  It was a hard decision to make because I've loved building the site and what started as a side project has exceeded all expectations.  

I'm so appreciative of the response and support the site has received this last year but I've realized that I'm unable to put the time into it that it needs.  So, effective today, we'll no longer be posting. The site will stay live and hopefully be a handy resource. And because I love all things kids parties, I will still be pinning on the HHH Pinterst board. 

Thanks to all for visiting  HHH.  And a big thanks to Melanie who without I would have not been able to run the site the past six months.  And thanks to my sweet friend and ongoing supporter, Maria, for regularly contributing.  Though I'm bummed about closing the site down, I've learned you can't do it all + and I'm slowly learning to be ok with that!

I spotted this shop last week over on paper+cup.  I don't think I'll tire of cupcakes .. especially a well-designed, minimalist cupcake shop...
